Another year goes by and another report of mine is late! My excuse – totaling these large numbers takes time! And one more diversion before we get into the meat of the report. Alex from Brutally Honest Stock has written a novel for his December/end of 2024 report. Definitely worth reading and an excellent summary of the state of the industry. December turned out to be pretty successful overall, but not because of stock earnings. I could see from Microstockr...
It has been quite some time since I updated my thoughts on how to sell your images as prints. I, of course, need to mention that I wrote an eBook about this and much of the information in that is still valuable (I believe) to anyone thinking of trying to sell their work as prints rather than stock photos. As I will report next week, December will likely turn out to be a pretty poor month in terms of stock...
I missed reporting earnings from Stock photo and Fine art sales last month, but I do have an excuse. We had just left on a cruise on the Nile River in Egypt with a side trip to Jordan. Plenty of photo opportunities, and I came back with 4000+ images, but I’m not very hopeful that it will be great for stock purposes. I’m not sure there is much of a market for such images, but I did have a great...
A full month here in Texas and I’m more settled and there are fewer boxes around. I even got my Epson 3880 printer installed as well, and so color prints are on the horizon! Weather can be a little boring: But onto the main subject with a quick diversion. Taras Kushnir has a survey for earnings and activities for stock photographers that he will analyze and publish on his blog. Worth completing to see how things are going in general...
As you know, I’ve been trying for the past 3 years to expand away from stock photography into the sale of my better photographs as prints via both Print on Demand sites and now with my own Etsy store. I’ve written about setting up this store in previous articles but on one of my trips to Austin looking for a new home I took the time to watch a webinar and a series of videos by the Craig Alexander academy....
I’m back with a very short update on sales from stock photography and from online sales of my work as prints. Why so long since I have been online on this site? Over the past couple of months, we have been getting our home in West Virginia ready for sale, looking for and buying a home in Austin Texas (actually Georgetown, TX) and then packing up, moving and starting to unpack in our new home. Quite an adventure and a...
A very belated report on my stock and fine art photography earnings in June 2024. I do have an excuse – we are moving to Austin, Texas in the next month or two and there has been a long list of things to do to buy a home there and start the process of selling my West Virginia home, including doing all the real estate photography – of course! But did the earnings in June make me smile? Yes and...
I must be in a jolly mood today to start with such a clickbait headline! Although I’m not sure that the actual earnings in May justifies the happy feeling. Earnings from photography in May 2024 May 2024 was okay, but I think some of the underlying trends are not very positive. The month ended with total earnings of $2635, which is the lowest May total since 2017. Get the picture? Here is my graph: I guess you could say that...
I was asked about a month ago, whether I knew what the financial performance of my stock portfolio was when you consider editorial work separately from commercial images and videos. Great question, but I have struggled to answer it! The first issue is that Microstockr Pro does not have an easy way to distinguish between the two types of upload. Although all my editorial images would have a city/state and date in the description, searching for those terms (which are...
It definitely seems to be getting harder to make money from stock photography these days, especially on Shutterstock. Overall, the month was not too bad, to be honest, with total income of $2798, which is quite an increase from March’s total of $2436. Here is my usual historic chart of total earnings: And of course, some readers will want to know the size of the portfolio. I did add more images in April from my trip into Ohio to photograph...
